Habitat: Mesic ravine forest, in upper reaches of valley of Dorsey Branch. Geology- Carrizo Sand, with Reklaw above and Wilcox below (Eocene). Community dominated by Quercus alba- Fagus grandifolia. Associates include Liquidambar styraciflua, Acer floridanum, Ilex opaca, Ostrya virginiana, Carex digitalis, C. striatula, Listera australis, Trillum gracile, Styrax grandifolia, Ilex longipes, Pedicularis canadensis, Cercis candensis, and Tradescantia hirsutiflora.
Reproductive Condition: flowering=early
