Neighbors included Cyperus pseudovegetus, Euthamia minor, Eupatorium semiserratum, Ludwigia palustris, Erigeron vernus, Polypremum procumbens, and Ampelopsis arborea. Some sphagnum moss was in evidence. In partial shade of willow oak and blackgum.
Three tussocks at edge of ditch. Staminate spikes grossly reddish brown. Pistillate spikes, all drooping on flexuous peduncles, were pale greenish blue, thus glaucous. Culms pale green, sharply triangular, scaberulous above, ascending-arching, their lengths ca. 3 to 5 ft. Adaxially, blades medium green to yellowish green, sublustrous; beneath, they were slightly paler, more bluish, without gloss.
