Some close associates included Itea virginica, Callicarpa americana, Ilex verticillata, Arundinaria tecta, and Woodwardia areaolata. In canopy and substory were tuliptree, blackgum, river birch, sweetbay, and red maple.
Fronds clumped. Pinae dark lustrous green above, lighter beneath. Sori light brown. Rachis and stipe pale green with dull brownish scurf.
