clumping perennial. Inflorescence about 45 cm, comprised of three spikelets; upper-most gynecandrous. Perigynia not winged; margins of staminate scales free. Nutlet not appearing to fill perigynia; fruit trigonous. Leaves keeled, bases often reddened; to 40 cm x 1-3 mm.
