Inflorescence borne atop thin stems, to 30 cm, with leafy bracts, margins pilose, ligule comprised of downward facing hairs. Glomerules with 6-8 flowers; each flower with six, reddish-brown sepals and subtended by two pale green bracts. Leaves green, often marked with purple, red or brown; to 9 cm x 6 mm; margins pilose.
