State-owned prairie fen (public hunting) with mostly sedge meadow zones and interspersed small marl zones. Several manmade channels and small creeks run through it. Prevelant vegetation includes Carex sterilis, Dasiphora fruticosa, Larix laricina, Pycnanthemum virginianum, Doellingeria umbellata, Eutrochium maculatum, Scheonoplectus tabernaimontanii, Rhamnus alnifolia, and Cornus. Heavy invasion of Frangula alnus. Some Toxicodendron vernix but is not dense in most areas. Evidence of recent burn with burnt logs, snags, small brush, and little dead ground vegetation in some areas. Also evidence of humans and possible ATV traffic. In northwestern portion of prairie fen, 25m south of Larix laricina border, 60m east of wooded upland, a few meters east of where shrubbery becomes denser (Cornus). Cyperaceae, Dasiphora fruticosa, and Solidago dominated area with some Typha latifolia. Cornus and Rhamnus alnifolia shrubs less than 1m tall every 9m2. Ground hummocky and wet to moist.
Flower - single flower on top, white rays, pale yellow disks, entire head 1-2cm, rays 5-8mm, rays 12-16. Population - common, 2-10 per 1m2, less than 40cm tall, few flowering. Growing with Cladium mariscoides, Carex sterilis, Dasiphora fruticosa, Solidago
