Site contains flat, upland second-growth longleaf pine savanna that slopes down to hardwood forests along intermittent streams that drain into the Tangipahoa River. Soils are Ruston-Smithdale fine sands mixed with and capped by loess deposits. Specimen collected in frequently-burned, upland, flat longleaf pine savanna in the vicinity of Plot 1. Overstory Pinus palustris; no midstory;
Overstory Pinus palustris; no midstory; dominant groundcover species in the immediate area include: grasses (Schizachrium scoparium, Panicum anceps, Schizachrium tenerum), forbs (Aster dumosus, Solidago odora, Helianthus angustifolius), and shrubs (Ilex glabra, Gaylussacia dumosa, Rhus copallina)
